On May 1st I had the honor to volunteer at a soup kitchen named Elijah's Promise Kitchen. It was a unique and very cool personal experience for me, helping out those whom are in need and trying to make the community a better place. They get on average 200 people daily and about 9,000 to 10,000 per month. So when I went on May 1st, we were met by one of the coordinators Pam, I volunteered to be one of the morning people to help prep and serve the food and the shift was form 9 am until 12:30 pm. From 9 to 10:55 we had the meals cooked and ready for the people and then from 11 until 12:30 we served the food to them. We served oven cooked chicken with potatoes and onions, yellow rice with veggies chopped in it, soup, and there was a small salad bar. Also, they serve sandwiches for people that have any allergies. The kitchen mainly runs on donations from all communities and also with people volunteering on a daily bases. One of the morning prep ladies over there named Gene (picture below) she has been a volunteer for over 10 years now and she told me about the joy and happiness she feels because she knows she is doing good service for the community and I had the same feeling when I was there helping out.
